oh, no, wait, he was getting it now. he knew why he was glowering at his desk. he wasn't sure if it was because the weather was nice or whatever, but his students were becoming more and more restless with each passing moment. he was surprised they had even agreed to quiet themselves to work on what had been placed before them. just in case, he picked his head up and glanced around the room before letting his glare resettle on the papers on his desktop, flickering his eyes to the watch around his wrist before looking up just as the bell rang. he let out an almost relieved sigh and stood, pushing his chair back and moving to the door. "i need those papers as you leave," he announced as he opened the door and allowed the first few rather confident students out, taking their papers from them and stacking them in his hands. he held out his other hand waiting for the following students to hand his papers to him, scowling as blank pages were given to him but appreciated the honesty.
the room was beginning to empty out now. one row remained, and, as most of it moved to the door, ryuu spotted a straggler. in fact, this student wasn't moving at all. counting back to the desk and going through the names he had assigned to each seat in his mind, he let out a frustrated sigh, thanking the few remaining students as they passed and handed papers to him.
when the class had cleared out but for the lone sleeper, he moved to his desk and placed the stack of papers on his desk, taking his glasses from his face and setting them on the hardwood top. he turned and scowled at the first year before lifting a book from his desk and moving back to him, opening it up flat and then closing it loudly beside him, waiting to see if anything more would have to be done to wake him.

514 words #jo-sensei #not so fast lol[/classy] [classy=text]Kaisei didn’t really see much need to come to class. Any class, really, but English class especially. He already spoke English, no matter how much the teacher insisted it wasn’t proper English. It had been enough to get him by in Singapore, and besides that he didn’t see the use of the language. He had no plans of leaving Japan anytime soon, it was too disorienting to move around so much. But much to his annoyance, attendance was counted, and though he cut class as much as he could while still getting by, he still found himself in class more often than he cared to be.
But he supposed English wasn’t too bad. Jo-sensei was lenient, and it seemed that no matter what Kaisei did he couldn’t be pushed into punishing the student. And Kaisei had tried a lot of things – when he was actually in class, he was talking back and asking stupid questions and doing whatever other disruptive things he could come up with to break through the monotony of class. Though on days when he wasn’t doing that, he was usually sleeping. Kaisei didn’t get much sleep most of the time, so he took any opportunity that came up to nap. If he felt like he could actually get to sleep for once, he wasn’t about to deny himself precious sleep.
Usually he cut class and found somewhere quiet where he wouldn’t get called out by teachers for skipping, but today’s class was just a work period, and the quiet classroom suited him just fine. Slumped onto his desk with his face buried in his crossed arms to block out the light, Kaisei fell asleep quickly for once, and deeply enough that the rising volume inside the classroom didn’t faze him. Not even the bell that signaled the end of class – and he was usually the first one to bolt out of the room – made him stir.
A sudden noise from right beside Kaisei startled him slightly, though his first instinctive reaction was to groan and bury his face deeper into the fabric of his uniform. Then he realized it was silent – was class over? It couldn’t be this quiet while class was still in session. Raising his head from the desk, he blinked drowsily to be met with the sight of the teacher standing over him. He groaned – he’d slept through the whole class, but as usual, it never felt like enough sleep. Kaisei sat up straight and yawned, stretching to shake of the remnants of sleep – he wasn’t embarrassed about having fallen asleep in Jo-sensei’s class, knowing the teacher probably didn’t expect any less of him. He was probably relieved, because as long as he was sleeping, he wasn’t disrupting the class.
“Did I miss anything, sensei?” Kaisei’s tone was mocking – they both knew he didn’t care what he’d missed, and he didn’t even wait for an answer before going on. ”Not really? Alright then, bye.” He stood up hastily, nearly knocking over the contents of his desk in his drowsy haste to leave before the teacher could say anything. [/classy] |

[atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=width,400][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] [style=font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; letter-spacing: 1px; line-height: 13px; padding: 10px;]thankfully, further action to wake the student was unnecessary. he set the book back on the top of his desk and then turned to start speaking. however, anything he had wanted to say was cut off as the boy began himself, using a mocking tone that made ryuu grit his teeth. he wasn't sure if kaisei even knew he was being as disrespectful as he was, but he was quite certain that he at least had an inkling of understanding that he wasn't making ryuu any less angry at him.
his leniency was definitely getting him into difficult situations. but he wasn't about to let a student walk all over him, not again, not the same student. again. as kaisei stood from his desk and began to move from the classroom, ryuu cleared his throat and moved toward the door himself.
"orimo-kun, i'd like to talk to you," he said in a demanding tone he forced into gentleness, though his teeth threatened to break with the force he had been gritting them beforehand. "you did, actually, miss quite a bit, if you count today with every other day you pulled this sleeping act. my class is not a slumber party," he concluded, his voice losing the gentle tone before he pulled it back over it. he couldn't go off in rage on the adolescent. he had to retain some sort of control over the situation, which required self-control.
he would've been completely fine with this whole thing if this was the first time. sleep was necessary for proper brain function and the like, he saw nothing wrong with it if a student was drifting off and they were trying their hardest to do their work but just couldn't pay attention. but kaisei--between his few absences and multiple days of disrespect and adamant disobedience--had no reason to receive any compassion from ryuu, even if he was sleep-deprived in the first place. it wasn't like he was working himself to the point of wearing himself out. the only reason why he was sleeping in his class was either to intentionally piss the teacher off or just because he saw no importance in the class itself, which, actually, would piss the teacher just as well.
punishment, though, wasn't something he was familiar with. he wasn't sure what sort of discipline falling asleep repeatedly during class deserved. he supposed he could send him to the principal but he highly doubted his boss would do much more than he could do himself. and for now, the most he could do was block the door and hope there was some sort of intimidation factor about him because of the fact that he was finally taking a stand, though he wasn't quite sure how intimidating he could be when he was so unsure of where he was going with this whole thing.
